Avoid Ice Water and Butter for Burns There are a number of natural cures that work really well for burns, but there are also some things that you would want to avoid because they can cause more damage than what they heal. That is why I thought would write an article not only dealt with the things that you should do whenever you have a burn but also some of the more common things that you may be told which you should avoid. Before we get into talking about these natural cures, however, let's talk a little bit about burns. First of all, there are several different types of burns and not all of them are appropriate to be treated at home. For example, a first degree burn is where you just have a little bit of redness and perhaps some swelling, and this is fairly easy to take care of at home. A second degree burn them typically has blisters, and this may be more difficult to treat naturally. A third degree burn typically is where you have charred skin and a lot of damage, and this should not be treated at home, it should be seen by a medical professional. The one thing that you want to do whenever you have a burn is to put something on it immediately to soothe it. The only thing that should really go on the burn immediately upon it happening is cool water. You can run water over a burn straight from the faucet, and this will help to alleviate some of the pain that you may be experiencing. That being said, you absolutely want to avoid putting ice on your burn, because it can cause frostbite. Another common mistake that people make is putting butter on a burn, and although a lot of people will tell you to do this, it really causes a lot more problems than what it heals. After you have cooled the area down with water, you can then begin applying a natural treatments, such as honey or lavender. You may also want to try spraying some apple cider vinegar onto the burned area, provided no skin has been broken. This helps to lower the pH balance in the skin and to bring things back to the point where they are able to be healed properly. If you don't have any vinegar or other ingredients, look in your refrigerator for some baking soda and make a paste. It works as well.
